Nov 6: Why should I be Involved in Church

Today we would be discussing our individual involvement in the Church, the resulting impact on other church members and the community at large. Just as a healthy human body needs the proper function of each part, each individual needs to function appropriately for a healthy and prosperous community. May the Holy spirit guide us today in recognizing our purpose in the place God had planted us.

Realize You Are a Part of Christ’s Body – The Church

Read 1Corth 12:12-27

1. Have you been “left out” of a significant event? How did you feel?

2. Discuss why the human body makes a good analogy to affirm unity in the church? What gives the church unity? How?

3. What one word best describes how you feel in being chosen (John 15:16) to be a part of Christ’s Body?

The Church Needs You

(Reference 1 Corinthians 12:14-20)

1. How is the human body such good analogy to affirm diversity in the church? What gives the church diversity? How?

2. What body parts seem to be most important to physical life? Least important?

What is God saying about the significance and importance of each one of us and the contribution we make in the function of His church? The health of the church?

3. What is one thing you do well . . . an ability, a passion, an attitude, etc.? Consider how your strengths can/are being used by God.

I Need the Church

(Reference 1 Corinthians 12:21-26)

1. What attitudes might cause a person to think, “I don’t need you”?

2. Discuss God’s perspective towards the various members (weaker, less honorable, unpresentable, and presentable) of His body. How should this influence our perspective and attitude?
