Lesson Introduction

Everyone of us has been created to make an impact. We at times do not know that what we do daily, and the decisions we take, sum up results in some sort of impact. When you go out every weekend to evangelize, feed the poor, etc., you are subconsciously making an impact. Unfortunately, people tend to not acknowledge or appreciate this until the individual is dead. At the end of today’s study, I pray you will start to see how you are making an impact in your little decisions, and be more intentional going forward.

A. CREATED TO MAKE AN IMPACT

God has not created us to live a purposeless life. He has created us to make an impact, Genesis 1:26-28. God wants us to go deeper with Him, because as we get closer to Him, He will reveal the ways we can impact lives. Going deeper with God is about living a life that has a deeper impact and matters for eternity. We mostly, as humans, make our existence on earth about us. However, it really isn’t about us, it is about God. For example, Cain made it about him and was upset when God didn’t accept his sacrifice, Genesis 4:1-8. Jesus understood that His life on earth wasn’t supposed to be self-centered. There was a greater purpose to Him coming on earth, and if He was to impact life, He had to live in that purpose, John 6:37-39. Never forget that you are here to serve, just like Jesus, Matthew 20:28. Anyone who doesn’t serve will make no impact. In our LESSON TEXT, we see that the impact the disciples made (of which we benefit from today was due to their faithful service. Again, choosing to not serve is choosing to have no impact. Choosing to serve, regardless of how little the ASSIGNMENT may look, is choosing to have an impact, Matthew 25:21. We are to have an impact in our community, and most importantly in the body of Christ.

B. PRINCIPLES THAT GUIDE MAKING AN IMPACT

There are certain principles we ought to pay attention to if making an impact is our goal. These are:

Impact starts with commitment, Acts 2:42 – You have to be devoted to the body of Christ. You cannot have an impact on what you’re not committed to. You have to examine your level of commitment to the body of Christ.
Impact requires sacrifice – In order to make an impact, you must accept that sacrifices will have to be made.
You will have to give up some things, especially those things you hold on to very dearly, Acts 2:45. Real impact will cost you your time, comfort, resources, etc.
Never forget that God uses our sacrifice to meet other people’s needs.
Impact creates growth, Acts 2:47 – When you go deeper at living out your faith, it draws others in. Others get challenged to draw closer to God just like you, Acts
11:26.
Impact is fueled by compassion, Matthew 9:36 – Love is the greatest of all, Matthew 22:36-40. You cannot reach those who you do not love. Compassion opens doors that preaching alone will never reach, so make it a point of duty to be compassionate.
Impact leaves a legacy, 2 Timothy 2:2 – The goal is to share with others that which God has given you, 1Chronicles 29:14. A life of deeper impacts goes beyond moments. It builds people up. To have the maximum impact, you have to think of how to raise others around you. Unfortunately, teachers are not recognized as much as they should. Their impact is very undervalued but they contribute so much to our educational foundation, thereby having lasting impacts in our lives.

Conclusion

What is healthy grows. If it’s not healthy, it won’t grow. You cannot impact lives if you are unhealthy. The only way to start healthy is to remain plugged into God, John 15:1-8, John 14:10. Be intentional how you live daily, and continuously meditate and apply the principles of making an impact.
