TOPIC—A LIFE OF INTERGRITY

Memory Verse

“The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.” Proverbs 11:3.

Proverbs 11: 1-6.

Lesson Introduction

Integrity comes from the Latin word “Integritas” which means wholeness or unbroken state. Integrity means being honest and having strong moral principles, consistently doing what’s right, even when its difficult or no one is watching. The key word here is when no one is watching. It is a core value that all believers must have especially in this corrupt society.

A. WHY INTEGRITY?

Integrity is a personality trait that does not make a person become a waiver or unstable, Isaiah 33: 15. It is a quality that shows that we can be trusted and relied on, 1 Samuel 12: 3-4.People of integrity honor commitments and keep promises, Joshua 2:12-14; 6:22-23; they recognize their fallibility; take responsibility for failures and try to rectify their mistakes, Genesis 26: 9-11; they are also naturally consistent in every area of life, Luke 16:10. God can vouch for people with integrity, Job 2:3. Can God vouch for you? Even in the midst of adversity, Job held unto his integrity, Job 2:9, 27: 5-6. We must understand that the devil, like he did to Job, is constantly seeking ways to destroy our integrity.
The Bible has records of people who exhibited integrity. They include Abimelech, the King of Gerar, Genesis 20: 3-7, Joseph, Genesis 47: 14, Samuel, 1 Samuel 12: 3-4, King David, 1 Kings
9: 4, Job, Job 2: 3, 9-10, Apostle Paul, Acts 20:33-34, and our Lord Jesus Christ, John 14:30.

B. INTEGRITY KILLERS

The quick-fix mentality for worldly gains, 2 Kings 5:20-23. Unfortunately, this is so rampant today. A lot of people, especially the young ones, want a shortcut to wealth, using ungodly methods, Proverbs 13:11. This is not right.
Another killer is to be preoccupied with gratifying desires which ultimately result in lust, 1 John 2:16-17.
The craving for material wealth at the expense of loyalty is also a killer of integrity, Matthew 26: 14-16.
In addition, one’s inability to maintain a consistent lifestyle is one of the integrity killers we overlook,Galatians 2: 11-14. When you have a consistent lifestyle, it will be easier not to fail on your words and promises.
Misappropriation of God’s mercy and grace as an excuse for careless living and moral laxity, Romans 6: 1-2.
Lastly, a lack of understanding of who we are and the salvation we received is an integrity killer we should pay close attention to, John 1:12.
