May 6 – Be still and know that I am God.

LESSON INTRODUCTION

Today we are examining the meaning of having an intimate relationship with God, by questioning our worship of God, which should be a normal, often healthy process that can lead to deeper conviction and understanding, rather than a lack of belief. It involves moving from inherited beliefs of worship to a personally examined, “grown-up” worship, which can strengthen trust in God amidst challenges.

Lesson Discussion

Lesson Text: Matthew 15:1-20:

Brainstorm: Who is God to you? What does worship of God mean to you?

  1. What was the focus of the Pharisees?
  2. What was the focus of Jesus?
  3. How does the confrontation between Jesus and the Pharisees challenge your understanding of religious practices?
  4. What are some modern-day traditions that might conflict with biblical teachings, and how should we address them?
  5. In what ways can you ensure that your worship is heartfelt and not just a ritual?
  6. What practical steps can we take to align our hearts with our words in our daily walk with Christ?
