Welcome to the May 2024, Month of Mental Health Awareness.
‘Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ‘
Matthew 11:28
Mental Health Awareness is the ongoing effort to reduce the stigma around mental illness and mental health conditions by sharing our personal experiences.
Often, because of misconceptions about mental health and mental fitness, people often suffer in silence and their conditions go untreated. Mental health awareness is an important social movement to both improve understanding and increase access to healthcare.
A mental illness is a health issue.
- It can affect your thoughts, mood, or behavior. It can impact the way you perceive the world around you.
- A mental illness can cause distress. It may affect how you cope at work, how you function in relationships and your ability to manage everyday tasks.
- Mental illnesses can last for a short time or for your whole life. Some mild mental illness lasts only a few weeks. Sometimes severe illnesses can be life-long and cause serious disability.
It’s crucial for everyone of us to understand the impact that mental health has on daily life. However, while mental health conditions can make daily life more difficult, they also don’t have to prevent you from having a fulfilling and engaging life.
When you and the people in your life understand and prioritize mental health care, it makes it easier to take the actions you need to do to take care of yourself and thrive.

This month I believe Christ is inviting all those who carry heavy burdens of the mind to come to find rest for their souls. We are going to learn how to find rest for our souls in the midst of chaos.
‘Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”’
Matthew 11:29-30
