Topic – THANKSGIVING – THE MASTER’S EXAMPLE
Memory Verse
“In everything give thanks: for this is the will
of God in Christ Jesus concerning you”. 1 Thessalonians 5: 18.
Lesson Text
John 11: 41 – 42.
Lesson Introduction
Jesus Christ is our perfect example in all things. We are to set aside everything that can be hindrances on the way of thanksgiving and look unto Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith, Heb. 12: 1-2. Jesus Christ came into the world in human flesh and his attitude to thanksgiving is the subject matter of this lesson. Anyone who says he abides in Him “ought” himself also to walk just as He walked, 1 Jn. 2: 6. The necessity to walk the way He walked is on those who profess to abide in Him. We pray that the Holy Spirit will teach us today in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

A. EXAMPLES BY JESUS CHRIST
The following are some Biblical examples when Jesus Christ gave thanks even at situations when man will think that it was humanly
not normal.
- In the midst of grief, hopelessnes, imposiblity, Jesus
Christ gave thanks. He gave thanks when people were weeping and sorrowtul, Jn. 11: 38-42. He gave thanks because He saw God as His father. He knew that the father will give good things when one asks, Lk. 11: 11-13. He gave thanks to the father at the grave of Lazarus because only God can kill and make alive. He saw God as the owner of life, who can give and take it, 1 Sam. 2: 6; Dt. 32: 39; 2 Kings 5:
- In Matthew 15: 32-38, Jesus Christ gave thanks before He fed the multitude. He gave thanks because there was a small boy who could give his lunch. Jesus Christ saw abundance when Philip saw insufficiency. Jesus Christ knew that there is no impossibility with God, Jn. 1: 37.
- In 1 Cor. 11: 23-24, Jesus Christ gave thanks at His last super. He knew that Judas scariot was going to betray Him, yet He gave thanks. He knew that His body was going to be broken, yet He gave thanks. He thanked God for the new covenant in His blood. He gave thanks even as He commanded us to remember His suffering and death.
C. GO AND DO LIKEWISE
Jesus Christ gave thanks irrespective of the situations in the above examples. The one who commanded water to bring forth fishes, Gen. 1: 20, gave thanks for some pieces of fishes. The first stalk of wheat came to existence at His words, Gen. 1: 11-12, gave thanks at some loaves of bread. The one who owns the earth and the fullness thereof, Psa. 24: 1, gave thanks for a boy’s meal. How often does pride stand between us and giving thanks to our maker who can supply all our need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus, Psa. 4: 19. He knew that Judas was going to betray Him, yet washed his feet and also gave thanks. Can we give thanks if God reveals our enemies to us? Even if he is brought into our lives to fulfil destiny, how easy is it to thank God? He gave thanks at the grave of Lazarus. Think of hopeless and sorrowtul situations in life and consider how hopeless situations can be turned into praising God.
Conclusion
It is good to count our blessings, name them one by one and there will be amazing grounds to thank the Almighty God. We should not allow any situation deprive us of praising God because all things are possible with Him, Jer. 32: 27; Lk. 1: 37.
