June 25 – Finding Purpose after falling to Temptation

He who is without sin among you….”

Today we are looking at a person that had been caught in the act of committing a sin and how there had been no shortage of people passing judgement.  As we read this story, we are going to be paying attention to how everyone treated this “sinner”, and then notice how Jesus treated the “sinner”.

  • What is the Difference between Knowledge and Insight?
  • What is Spiritual Knowledge and How do you acquire it?
  • What is Spiritual Insight and How do you acquire it?
  • What do you believe is the ultimate purpose of God for mankind?
  • Which of the two above reveals to your role in God’s purpose to you? Matthew 16:17

…“He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”

There are three main characters in this Scene; the Woman, the Teachers of the Law and Jesus. Jesus, teaching in the temple courts, is interrupted by the Pharisees and scribes presenting an adulterous woman. They test Jesus, asking if she should be stoned per the law of Moses. (The absence of the male participant in this account raises questions about the motives of the accusers and the fairness of the proceedings.)

  • Which of the three Characters in this scene have Spiritual knowledge of the Law?
  • What was the approach of the accusers of the woman to sin and judgement?
  • How do you interpret Jesus’ statement, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” in the context of our modern world?
  • Why were the accusers convicted by their conscience?
  • What was the approach of Jesus, to sin and judgement?

From the above Scripture what was Jesus Encouraging, in terms of Spiritual knowledge and Spiritual Insight?
