June 4 – Finding Purpose in Temptation – 1

“Tell these stones to become bread”

Have you ever found yourself in a position, knowing fully well that God had blessed you with something or someone in someplace and yet you’re under intense pressure, due to what you are seeing or hearing or experiencing, to think or feel or do something contrary, that may Jeopardize the blessing? You are not alone. This intense pressure is called Temptation.

This month we are looking into what lessons we can learn, on how Jesus was able to realign His body, soul and spirit, (Physical, Emotional and Mental Well-being)with the truth of the Purpose which God had blessed him with, in the wilderness of Temptation.

The three temptations which Matthew records, give an insight into the issues that Jesus was wrestling with during his forty days in the wilderness.  Today we are examining the First temptation of Jesus, “command that these stones become bread.”

Why do you think The Spirit lead Jesus into the Wilderness to be tempted by the devil?

  • What is the difference between Temptation and sin? can God Tempt you?
  • What was plan of the tempter? (Short term goal?)
  • How was the temptation effected?
  • Why was He tempted? (Long term goal?)
  • What did Jesus need to do to overcome the Temptation?
  • How did He overcome the Temptation?
  • Why did He overcome the Temptation?
  • What could have happened to Jesus if He actually commanded to stones to become bread?

Action Plan
