Text: Matt 6:5-15
Today as we round up on the theme Responsibility, we are taking a look, once again, at the Model prayer that Jesus taught in (Mat 6:9-13) and compare it with the prayer of Jabez (1chro. 4:9-10). At the end of the study, we would be able to determine not just what we should be praying for but how we should be praying. May the Holy Spirit enlighten us all as we study in Jesus Name.
Ice Breaker: What is the difference between Selflessness and Selfishness? Is there a balance between selfishness and selflessness?
- What have you learnt from the model prayer that Jesus taught, about God, what you pray for and your attitude in the place of prayer?
- How would you describe the Model prayer, Selfish or Selfless or both? Why your choice?
- Read 1 Chro 4:9-10. What does it mean to Bless?
- What is the difference between when you say “God bless you” and “God bless me”?
- How would you describe the essence of the prayer of Jabez?
- Was his prayer selfish or selfless? Why your choice?
Conclusion: Jesus was in a crisis mode and His prayer was in Mat 26:42 ‘Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.”’
What does this tell you about God, Crisis and yourself in the place of prayer?
