Welcome to July, Month of Responsibility.
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:14-16
Obligation can be described as “something” that you are required to do. Responsibility can be described as “something” that you are expected to do. While an Obligation could be a binding external force (e.g. the traffic Laws) that compels you to act in a certain way, Responsibility is being accountable for the way you acted (obeying the traffic Laws). Having a sense of Responsibility is an awareness of one’s obligations.
In the scripture above, Jesus described you as a Light of the World. Your Obligation is to give your “light to all who are in the house”. It is your Responsibility to light your lamp, put it on a Lampstand and not under a basket.
Your lighted lamp has the potential to bring a positive change in someone’s life wherever you are. A lighted lamp under a basket is a potential fire hazard. Examples are:
- When you see the problem that you can solve, but will not lift a finger to help and choose to walk away
- When you identify the problem,rather than solve the problem you are talking about it and providing no solution.
- After you have seen and identified the problem, you are highly critical of the solution someone else is executing and attempting to blow out the lamp of others.
Having a Sense of Responsibility.
How can you give the gift of your light, to those in a “dark” situation, that they may see your good works and give thanks to God?
I will like to suggest this three ways
- Give a gift of your time:don’t wait till you have a free time to help but you free up time to help.
- Give a gift of words of affirmation: speak words of encouragement. Speak about possibilities.
- Give a gift of an act of service:do the unexpected. Solve the problem
This month we are developing a sense of Responsibility. You are blessed and Highly favored.
